Elegant In Blue

One color, besides neutrals, that seems to never go out of style is blue. Research has shown the color blue can be a stress reliever and calming to the mind, which is why many love to use it in their interior design plan. Inspired by this idea of creating a relaxing atmosphere, we created this mood board with blue being the emphasized hue.

Curved Lines

Not only is the color blue a way create a calming emotion, curved lines are another way designers add softness and comfort to a room. A room that feels heavy could be because it has a lot of straight lines. Modern styles can use some curved lines but typically its very vertical and horizontal, while traditional and/or transitional designs utilized this feature.

Transitional Style

There are so many different styles in the interior design world these days, it's hard to know what is what. You may have wondered, at first look of this mood board, what style is this? We would classify this as more of a transitional look rather than traditional.

Transitional design incorporates the traditional style while mixing aspects from other styles as well.

Reasons Why It's Transitional vs. Traditional

We placed this look in the transitional design because of some modern touches. Traditional looks really emphasize curved lines in most all of the furniture, and while this sofa has a curved arm and scalloped frame, it also has a straighter (tapered) leg thats part of the modern category. If you notice the chairs in the picture they have a tall linear leg as well as a vertical arm with no curves. This interior inspiration uses a gold glass coffee table which is shown in a lot of the mid century, modern decorating instead of darker wood furniture pieces like a traditional room would have. Overall, by the blending of modern details with the traditional foundation of the room, it gives it more of a contemporary feel.

Tips

- Create a welcoming and soft space in your home by adding curved lines with calming colors (like blue).

- If you'd like to contemporize your traditional styled room, mix in straighter lines and possibly different materials with your accent furniture pieces. (transitional design)
